FAQ

Is carsharing the same as carpooling?

No. Carsharing provides members access to vehicles 24/7 without the burden of car ownership. Imagine…all the convenience of driving, with no added costs. You pay for only your actual usage. Never pay for another oil change, ever!

Who buys the gas?

We do. You pay only your minimal monthly membership fee (to cover administrative costs) and your per mile or per hour fee: gas, insurance, and maintenance included! How’s that for simple?

Does carsharing cost less than owning a car?

For most folks, yes! AAA estimates that car owners who drive 10,000 miles per year spend approximately $6,000 per year on their vehicles. Typical carshare usage runs about $600-$1,000 per year. That’s nearly 1/6th of the cost! You do the math. Carsharing helps members take control of their transportation costs. you actually save money by driving less!

When will you start?

As soon as we raise enough money to purchase our first car! We are currently writing grants, planning fundraisers, and spreading the word about carsharing. We are hopeful that we will be able to launch our first vehicle in early 2009.

How can I help?

We are currently looking for volunteers interested in planning our Fall Fundraiser. Do you cook? Play music? Decorate? Do you have silent auction items? are you passionate about carsharing? Let us know and we’ll put you to work.

We are also actively recruiting board members. If you are passionate about carsharing and are ready to commit to fundraising, monthly meetings, and regular sub-committee meetings, let us know. We are also looking for folks with skills in the areas of marketing, finance, law, business, human resources, graphic design, transportation, and city or county government. Interested? We’d love to hear from you.

Can I donate my new-ish car and become a member?

Absolutely. The value of your car can be traded for membership credits, which would essentially allow you to drive (for quite a while) for free! Follow this link to read about a woman who did just that!
